Understanding the environment in which we perform our business operations and minimising our environmental footprint is critical to maintaining our legal and social licence to operate.
Extonpetrol's objectives on environmental care are to be energy and water efficient and to reduce emissions and waste. In pursuing these objectives, we consistently comply with guidelines as set out in operating licenses, legislation and our own global standards. The care for our environment is an integrated part of our ‘License to Operate’, which means that Extonpetrol aims to minimize its impact on its surroundings and areas of biodiversity. This includes energy consumption, emissions, treatment of contaminated water, use of the surface area, and care for areas of high biodiversity.
We wants to be a responsible partner for all our stakeholders, from customers, business partners and shareholders, to employees, local communities and society at large. Our ambition is to be a strong link in our customers’ global value chains and a leader in our industry. We recognize our responsibility for the social, environmental and economic consequences of our activities. Extonpetrol works with customers and suppliers to maintain long-term partnerships and ensure continuous improvement in our approach to sustainability.
CO2 Emmission Monitoring Efficiency
We achieved the aim of reducing CO2 emissions by more than 30% and committed to reducing CO2 emissions by a further 1 million tonnes from 2020 to 2030.
Extonpetrol operates a wide range of oil and gas technologies and equipment and is involved in an industry that is considered to be a significant source of air emissions. And as a socially responsible company, pays special attention to reducing our impacts on air quality and monitors its emissions of CO2 and other pollutants in line with the requirements of legislation and its methodological documents. Therefore, it conducts regular monitoring of the emission of air pollutants, with a series of measures aimed at reducing these emissions are applied in accordance with set objectives.
We put great emphasis on our waste management as well. Extonpetrol treats all types of waste (industrial, commercial and communal) in accordance with the legal obligations which means selecting, mapping, and handing over the waste to an authorized firm for further procedure. The waste from the cleaning the sludge pools of the water treatment station is carried out, processed/removed in accordance with the internal and other international regulations for waste treatment, and in close collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Russain Federation.
Water resources are of basic importance and play an important role in Extonpetrol’s operations as well since we use water from all types of sources for our activities. The water management includes constant monitoring and inspecting the quality of the treated waste water (which passes through the water treatment station), the ground waters and the technical water. In accordance with the legal obligations, external accredited laboratories take samples and analyze the waste water from the treatment station as well as the technical water, and they are also analyzed in EP’s laboratory.
Biodiversity can be an important challenge for the oil and gas industry, especially in case of new investments. Even though Extonpetrol’s activities have relatively low impact on biodiversity, the company has been implementing local biodiversity protection projects at several of our upstream locations, and is continuously working on better understanding and identifying all of the relevant risks caused by our operations.
